Synergy

Another week and it is Oscar night. The awards shows start so early out on the West Coast. 5:30 PM to be exact. I don't know if many watch out here as they do start so early. They should just delay the broadcast to Prime Time.

Not a bad week. I am still job hunting. That is always great fun. Worse than a trip to the dentist. I registered with the Oregon Employment Department. Hopefully they will be able to provide some leads.

Went out last night. Things were crazy downtown, as a lot of people were out celebrating Leap Year. First stop was the Boiler Room in China Town. Boiler room is a Pub, they do karaoke, and have a few pool tables. The crowd seems to be mid 20's to early 30's. It was a lot of fun. I did not sing. Actually, it was pretty crowded and although some in our group signed up to sing we left before they ever called our names. Then it was a quick cab ride up to Stark Street, and into Boxes for cheap drinks. Boxxes is connected to two other clubs. So we spent time in all three. Panorama is one of the clubs connected to Boxxes. They were having a huge party called Synergy. It was a blast. They had an awesome D.J. and probably the best laser lights I have seen in a dance club. I think we danced until like 4a.m. Just crazy. Another Red Bull please.

Mardi Gras

Last night was Mardi Gras! Did you guys celebrate Fat Tuesday? Downtown Portland was bumpin' with activity, which is pretty amazing for a Tuesday night. Felicia had heard about this bar she wanted to check out on the radio called Voodoo Lounge. It turns out to be a swank little bar in China Town. Very nice. When I called them they said they had a strictly enforced dress code. However, once we got there, the only thing strictly enforced was money collection. So Felicia and I dressed up. No photos as I seem to be the only person in the whole wide world that I know with a camera. The cover for Voodoo Lounge was $10.00 which I was not thrilled about to begin with, and was really not thrilled about once I got inside. It was a lounge for sure. A cool lounge. The $10 just bought access to the bar. No live music, nada, and the well drinks were $5.00! Needless to say, we didnt stay very long.

Then it was off to CC Slaughters. Now Slaughters is always good fun. No cover, and cheap drinks. To keep it the New Orleans spirit alive, they had men flash the audience. That gets boring after a while. Slaughters tried to make me a hurricane, but it ended up being blue and not tasting very much like a New Orleans style hurricane. They come out red at Pat O's in New Orleans, which incidentally is the very first place I ever bought a drink. Hurricanes are probably not the best drink for a beginning drinker, so I passed it off to a friend and switched to a wussy strawberry daiquiri, which I still like to this day.

After Slaughters it was on to Stark street. However, all the places we wanted to go charged cover. So we decided not to pay. Why pay on Mardi Gras when it's the same thing as any other day just with beads?! We did stop by the Roxy for a late night sandwich and some coffee. Not really all that late actually. Probably only like 12:30 or 1 am. But, we had our fun and were ready to head home anyway.

Good times all-in-all, and came home with lots O beads. Now getting those is a whole other story.

Still looking for the jobs, but all is still going well, although I am beginning to feel it is going to come to crunch time soon.

I have been out in the city meeting new people. I met this cool guy named Rory. Rory is a singer/songwriter/pianist, well best if you just check out his stuff for yourself. It is hard to classify Rory. I obtained a copy of his CD, and I like it. A bit quirky, but good groovy fun all in all. In fact, Im listening to the CD as I type.

Things in the apartment are coming along. Most of the boxes have been unboxed and my room is slowly coming together. Now I just need to get my taxes sent off. Im hoping to get money back. That should help out a bit.

Now that the computer is set up and I am getting things in order, I will post pictures from the move. I hope the images of the snow covered mountains Mom and I crossed come out. There should be some awesome shots to share with you guys.

That is about all the news from sunny Portland, Oregon. More to come
